Poem for Dad's Service

I'M FREE

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free
I've followed the path God laid for me.
I took his hand when heeded his final call.
I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way
I found my place at the close of day.

If my parting has left a void
Then fill it with remembered joy
A frendship shared a laugh, a kiss
Ah yes, these things, I too, will miss.

No time for sorrow
I wish you bright sunshine for tomorrow.
My life's been full, I savored much.
My travels, good friends, good times and a loved one's touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief
But after 96 six years I went to sleep.
So don't lengthen it now with undue grief
Just lift up your hearts and share with me.
God finally has set me free
