William Frederick Baird

"Bill Baird"

Bill was born in Los Angeles California 3 March 1921, to Florence and Nelson Baird. He was an only son who excelled in sports, especially football at Eagle Rock High.

Bill started his career with the Bell System in 1940 in Los Angeles and later relocated to San Diego in 1948 where he retired with 36 years in 1977. His positions included; "Installer", "PBX Repairman", and then as
"Complex Repair Foreman".

In 1950 he joined the United States Marine Corps and served his country for 1 year and then transferred to the Reserves in 1951, serving until 1962. During this time Bill obtained his pilot's license and continued to own, repair and fly airplanes until his mid-eighties. All his close friends were either "Phone Company", or "Montgomery Field Pilots and Mechanics". Bill was an excellent mechanic and electrician, and the bigger the electrical problem, the more he loved the challenge.

A lover of people. He enjoyed helping others even when at times they did not want his help. Yet, that is what made him "Bill Baird". He continued his love of people and helping them out, right up to his last days, making sure his caregivers received his thanks in writing.

Bill is survived by his children Cathleen (Lloyd) Huck of San Diego, William (Maggie) Langgons of Sydney, Australia, Keith (Olivia) Baird of Ocala, Florida, and Douglas (Karen) Baird of San Diego, California, along with 7 grand-children, many great-grand-children and a couple of great-great-grand-children. He is also survived by his step-daughters Marilyn (Hank) Atha of Tucson, Arizona, and Yvonne (Mike) Wilson of Flagstaff, Arizona.
